About The Role

The Fabric Technologist supports the production merchandiser, QC teams and suppliers in order to maintain the required fabric quality in terms of all technical aspects.

Another responsibility is to introduce new qualities that meet trends and brand standards, and to assist fabric mills in resolving quality and technical issues in order to ensure smooth production.

About the team

There is a great team of people (local and international) that you will collaborate with in this role, who all share your ambition and help you achieve your goals. You will report to the sourcing director, and team up with colleagues in garment technology and merchandising, as well as suppliers, in order to decide how to achieve consistent product quality in terms of fabric, yarn and trims.

In this role, you will:

  • Assess the risk of fabric and styling together with the garment technologist and the product developer in order to resolve any potential issues before production
  • Review fabric and trim specs, and bulk testing with the ability to comment on failed specifications and advise solutions to improve performance of the fabrics
  • Review and approve care instructions based on each fabric and/or yarn specifications and testing results together, with a customer focus
  • Carry out regular visits to the fabric mills to explore new trends and source brand right new qualities and provide information to the product development and buying teams on a regular basis
  • Identify any potential fabric backing programs and review with merchandising and buying teams in order to achieve cost and quality consistency benefits for the brand

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in textile engineering or fabric-procurement-related vocational school
  • Good technical knowledge in fabric production both on jersey and wovens
  • Passion about quality
  • A dynamic, responsible and self-motivated mindset

  • Good communication and negotiation skills
